No.16: Prospectus

The episode, or rather, episodes, I am analyzing are the first two episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 1. The main focus of my paper will be on the second episode, but some scenes in the first episode will be added to further explain my theme. My theme is about friendship. When we have no or little power, we tend to pay more attention to friendship and care more about our friends; however, when we have gained power, we tend to forget how important friends are and a lot of times, we dump our friends for more power.

I will probably put some of my or my friends’ stories to stress the conflict, agreement, and meaning of friends. I will also put some quotes and stories from the Internet to support my theme. I’m sure this is an easy topic to write about since there is a lot of information on this topic both in real life experience and on the website. But I will try to talk about some aspects different from the common acknowledgements of friendship. As I said in my last blog, my biggest problem when writing a paper is no matter how good the paper is or the words are in my mind, I can’t put them down on paper. I don’t know how to decorate my words to make them more attractive and diplomatic.

One good thing about this paper, I think, is the length of time we have to finish it. Maybe I will run to the writing center and look for help everyday.

  1. I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer too. I agree with you that the friendship is a essential line through out the whole show. Not only the loyal freindship that assits Buffy in the dangerous situation, but also the freidship which makes Buffy to love and forgive as a normal high school girl.

  2. I agree that a good argument can be made with the question of friendship and how power and stature can change how people act and treat others. I would have to say a good example are those that become famous and let a lot of the fame get the best of them.

  3. You seem to be saying that through the second episode, the writers of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are engaging that people's attitude towads friendship can be changing always. The main evidence for this argument seems to be friendships in high school. This argument is timed because friendship is a focus for people who live in modern world.I think when connecting to real world, friendship's change will be more complicated. However, this is a good topic for people to considerate because most people now are busy pursuing benefits and fame ignoring the essence of friendship.

  4. You seem to be saying that through "Welcome to the Hellmonth" and "The Harvest" the writer of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are arguing abhout the functions and significances of freidship between Buffy and her buddies.
The main evidence for this argument seems to be the scenes where Jess was considered to be a kind of loser at the first place, havnig only one friend, Xander, and where Jess went to the bar without any diffidence which used to be his sign.
This is timely because freindship is, which we will always need to surviveis,,something never fading away.
Have you ever thought about connectting this argument to the real world dillema that we have companionship of different sorts, which will either serve as a conrnerstone or will pose a detrimental affect on oueselves.
This is how I see these things connecting: the freidship is a bless when we cherish it and be careful with it, but a curve when we disbuse it.
I think analizing this episode and the theme of freidship will together could be fruitful because friendship is an extensive topic which you could relate to a large quantity of problems, and also Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a show which possesses lots of similarities with our life.

  5. You seem to be saying that through the first two episodes the writers of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are arguing that sometimes people mistake the wrong things as being important when new things come their way. The main evidence for this argument seems to be that when the characters gain power they forget about thier friends and feel as they're not important anymore but when they are down and out they expect their friends to be there for them. This argument is timely because people need to stop and analyze their priorities before they think that their new things are more important because they will need their friends again in reality. Have you thought about connecting this argument to situations in the real world such as with celebrities or even your own friends or family ditched the things that mattered the most when they think they had it all. This is how I see these two things connecting the charcter from Buffy who forgets her friends when she gains power people of the real world ditching old friends or even spouses when they gain power and fame. I think analyzing this episode and this real world topic will be very benefical because this happens all the time, such as with Tiger Woods and his wife.

  6. You seem to be saying that through” The Witch”, the writer of “ The Witch” are arguing that friendship is easy to be effect by other elements. The main evidence for this argument seems to be: how to keep old friendships when we have different situations. The argument is timely because we are all in college now, and most of us need to say goodbye to our old friend in high school. Especially for international students, we have a completely different environment with my high school student.
Have you thought how to connecting this argument to how to make a life-time long friend? This is how I see these two things connecting together: Some people who have different working environment also can be good friend in their life. Sometime I also feel familiar with my old friends even we did not see each other about two years. There are always new friends appear in our lives, but it is also important to keep an old friendship. You can talk about how to keep old relationship in your essay.
