No.35: Commonplace Article #2

The article I picked out to read today is called Lizards are People Too, it is written by Ashley Caveda. It is under the Culture category, but I do not know why it was categorized there. This article sounds like an episode analysis paper from our English class to me. It talks about a TV series entitled V, and it is obviously a science fiction because it is about aliens trying to take over every tribe, every country, and every continent on the earth. I think I have heard about this show before, but I never watched it. Based on the information or analysis the author gave in the article, some questions were raised, such as
How do we know whom to trust?  How do we utilize technology in a productive and ethical way?  How ought faith and spirituality to remain a part of our lives as our scientific understanding grows?  And how can we put aside our differences in such a way that allows us to create life rather than to cultivate death?” (Caveda)
Then it sounds like an episode analysis on Dollhouse to me. I know a lot of you are doing Dollhouse and some of you are using the good and bad aspects of technology as your arguments. So maybe those of you can consider putting this show as a reference.

When I was reading this article, I was thinking about this actually could be applied to the huge amount of immigration every year. When there are too many immigrants in one country, the original residents of that country are facing the danger of being assimilated to different cultures and eventually losing theirs. Another thing I found interesting is that when I was writing the sentence above, I was thinking about the European conquistadors first came to the Americas. To the Native Americans, the Europeans were the “aliens” that were going to take over the place they were living in.
