No.53: A Pet Peeve

The pet peeve that I cannot stand is me being a perfectionist. Perfectionism actually sounds like a good thing, right? So you can be perfect on everything, as least you can reach the level that you think is perfect. However, I feel like a victim of perfectionism. I pay too much attention to the little details all the time and ignore the other parts. And it always makes me spend a lot of time on a single object.

For example, one simple thing, handwriting. I cannot say I have the best and prettiest writing in the world. But if you open a notebook or a practice booklet of mine, you will see that I have very neat handwritings. Something you will also notice is that accompanying the neat handwriting, there are a lot of white-out or eraser marks. Every time I come across a word or letter that doesn’t have the same size, or may look a little bit askew, I will have to erase it. Many times I am so frustrated with this habit, but I still cannot stop it. It sound like that I have some kind of mental disorder, or maybe OCD. Normally other people may only need an hour on a paper, but I probably will spend two hours on it, just to get it look perfect.

Basically you will hardly see any scrabbles on my papers, at least if I intend to. Because my handwriting will take me a ton of time, I like to type everything up in the computer. Then I don’t have to worry about the imperfections in my writing.

  1. being a perfectionist is hard though. having a peeve about it probably makes you better at being it.

  2. Being a perfectionist has its advantages and disadvantages. I cant imagine always having to correct my writing, unless I make a spelling error. my writing is usually so sloppy.
