No.50: The Best Present

I know we are supposed to write about the best present we have ever got. However, I cannot recall any. I am the kind of person who does not care about what presents she gets on her birthday or holidays. No matter how fancy or expensive that present is. What I care about the most is that the people I love all remember my birthdays and can say “Happy Birthday” to me at the right time. That’s why there are never any candles on my birthday cake and I never make a wish and then blow out the candles. I enjoy it when everyone is celebrating the day because of me.

So can I switch the topic to the most memorable birthday I ever had in my life? Ok, no one disagrees, so that means I can. The most memorable birthday I ever had was my fifteenth birthday. That was the first birthday when none of my parents or relatives was around me. My birthday is in the summer break, but it is very close to the date that school starts. So I actually celebrated my fifteenth birthday in Canada with my homestay mom, Shamy, and a Japanese girl Arisa, who was also hosted by Shamy. It was on a Thursday, and Shamy took us to a restaurant, which looked like a pub but it wasn’t. The food they served there was delicious. The best part of that restaurant was that they sang birthday song to the costumers. So I was sitting there with Shamy and Arisa. And a bunch of the restaurant servers came to our table and started singing “Happy Birthday” to me. Then they put down the chocolate cake. The cake tasted fantastic! Although it was a small cake, we all had a bite of it and enjoyed it.
